The most popular site in video content sharing YouTube has entered in the Indian market translating into desi flavour. Google on Wednesday launched its Indian version and also in partnership with different media companies it aims to present all top Indian content including Bollywood entertainment and culture as a whole.
The YouTube India can be accessed from two different web addresses: http://in.youtube.com and http://www.youtube.co.in.
Introducing the local version, Steve Chen, Chief technology officer and co-founder of YouTube said, “We are very excited to bring a local version of YouTube to India considering the passion of users here for music and entertainment.”
Assuring the Indian customers about its content and pattern Chen said, “YouTube India will not only offer Indian users more relevant content but also provide a platform to share India's unique and diverse culture and lifestyle with the largest online video community in the world."
For launching its local version, YouTube has inked the partnership deal with several media groups and corporate houses including UTV, NDTV, India TV, Zoom TV, Rajshri Films, Eros Entertainment, IIFA, the Ministry of Tourism, IIT Delhi, and KrishCricket to provide the exclusive Indian content to Indian YouTube lovers.
‘Anyone can create videos anywhere and upload it on YouTube to share it with the family, friends, relatives, as cited by Sakina Arsiwala, the international manager of YouTube during the launching ceremony.
“YouTube allows to create, connect and upload content with a simple Web camera or even a cell phone and converse with each other through the medium of video.” said Sakina.
“It provides a powerful way for people to express themselves. From a home video to a magic show to classroom lectures or working professionals connecting with their families in another city, YouTube is about communication and not just entertainment.” added Arsiwala.
Describing about the security of users, privacy of contributors and copyright of the contents, Sakina said, “All uploaded content on YouTube is protected by its digital hash technology for copyright protection. This technology makes it very difficult for someone to copy and reload the same content….while company’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy provides security of its online users online against objectionable content, including porn.”
Moreover, ‘the user can report the company regarding any objectionable content by flagging it, which is an added tool to each content,’ informed YouTube official.
The interactive features like promoted videos, featured videos, home page promotions, localised user interface, help center, user support and fast and accurate searching make popular this product of Google. Here, in YouTube India, user can search easily Indian content in video form by using the sorting keywords like video name, contributor name, category, ‘most viewed’, ‘most discussed’ and ‘top favourite’.
YouTube, founded in February 2005 was the innovative idea to share the emotions, actions, drama, thought, education and many more friends and relatives. Sequoia Capital funded in November 2005 and launched in December 2005. Since beginning it became so popular that forces Google to bid it.
Google Inc in November, 2006 purchased YouTube through huge bidding. CBS, BBC, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, NBA, The Sundance Channel and many more are the partners of YouTube for its global version.
