Five companies have been selected for the 14th Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards, for the year 2007. The honour is scheduled to take place on April 10 with the presence of Minister of Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Sharad Pawar.
The award was instituted in 1991 with the name of India’s visionary Late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi to promote and encourage Indian manufacturing and service sector with special emphasis on quality programmes in international market.
This recognises organisation leading the quality movement in India with an aim to meet optimum consumer satisfaction and at the same time increasing competitiveness of indigenous product in global market.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), involved in the development of standardization, marking and quality certification, takes the credit of presenting the award since its inception. It also sets guidelines and criteria that can be used to evaluate quality improvement programmes of different companies.
This time apart from five national awards which includes two large-scale, two small-scale industries and one best of all awards, sixteen other organisations have also been selected for commendation certificates under various categories.

Best of all Award: Steel Authority of India Limited - Bokaro Steel Plant, Bokaro
Large Scale Manufacturing Industry: Tata Motors Limited - Commercial Vehicle Business Unit - Pune Plant, Pune
Large Scale Service Industry: Tata Ryerson Limited, Jamshedpur
Small Scale Manufacturing Industry: T.V. Super Filter Industries, Jammu
Small Scale Service Industry: Wealthmax Enterprises Management Private Limited, Bengaluru
