The 9th International Leo Expo, 2008 organised by the premier advertising group, the Leo Advertising, will be held at Assam Engineering Institute Ground, Chandmari from October 31 to November 13, 2008. This year a total of about 250 business organisations from the country and abroad, will participate in the mega event. Amongst them the prime attraction will be the stalls from Thailand, Myanmar, Pakistan, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Kenya.
The number of overseas stalls may increase as discussion with some other foreign companies is still going on. Thailand will be a major attraction in the Expo, as there will be a 1000-feet Thailand pavilion covering various traditional and unique items of the country.
Various Leo Expo awards offered to distinguished personalities of the state by the organiser will be given away during the days of the event. The Leo Expo Silpi Award, 2008 has been conferred to noted singer-couple, Late Dilip Sharma and Sudakshina Sharma, for their outstanding contribution in the field of music. The prize money of the award, i.e. rupees one lakh and the citation has already been delivered to the couple before the sudden demise of Dilip Sharma recently.
The Leo Expo Journalist Award, 2008 has been conferred to the eminent and veteran Journalist Mr. Tilak Hazarika for his lifelong contribution in the field of journalism and the prize money of rupees one lakh and citation will be offered to him in a function at the Expo.
The Award has been conferred jointly to famous woman boxer of the state, Kalpana Choudhury and prominent Table Tennis Player, Bibery Basumatary. Prize money of rupees one lakh will be jointly shared by both the players of repute. Moreover, a special award of Rupees twenty thousand will be given away to ace swimmer Alvis Ali Hazarika.
Three popular artistes of Assamese Cinema, namely, Jerifa Wahid, Prastuti Parashar and Nishita Goswami, will be the brand ambassadors of the 9th International Leo Expo, 2008.
Attractive cultural programmes will be organised in the Expo premises in the evening daily, during those days. It will be pure entertainment as well as shopping, with participation of a number of veteran and young artistes. It is to mention here that a number of prize money competitions will be held amongst the students in the Expo premises.
An Art Competition, a school quiz competition, a dance competition, cooking contest will also be held on the occasion. The prize money for the top three of all the competitions, except cooking, will be, respectively of rupees 10,000, 5,000 and 3,000. The art, quiz, Dance and cooking competitions will be held on 9th, 10th, 11th and 8th of November, respectively. The last date for participation in the competitions is 1st of November, 2008.
