The story which has popped out from the bullet hit Rajbir laying in the pool of blood in the office of Vijay Bhardwaj and latter’s confession that he murdered Singh for a property dispute does not seem to sink well.
The fearless encounter specialist, who owed his country the duty of a policeman also remained surrounded with controversy, ironically even after his death. The encounters, which earned him promotion of Assistant Commissioner of Police from Inspector and Sub Inspector, also landed him trouble for the gross human right violations during Ansal Plaza Shootout in which an eyewitness claimed it was a fake encounter.
In 2005 his alleged conversation with drug mafia leaked in a tapped conversation by Narcotics Cell resulted into his shunt from crime branch to armed police but was later given clean chit in the want of evidences. Delhi High Court also noticed him for his alleged manhandling of resident of Kirti Nagar in relation to property dispute. After getting clearance from the department he was returned as the head of the Special Operation Squad, a special anti-terror cell recently established in 2007.
Death of Rajbir Singh, the encounter specialist not only left many unanswered question but has also raised several suspicion.
His meteoric rises despite indulging in controversies had always linked him with powerful people at the backstage without whom there could not have been the phenomenal rise in Rajbir’s career. Allegedly cover-up of crimes committed by him in uniform at several juncture by VVIP’S had also grasped the media attention.
Ironically the power enjoyed by him marred with his death, which is very much evident, the way top police officials who once aided his stay in the service and promotion regardless of his involvement in various infamous cases got them separated by remaining away from his funeral.
The other side of the story surprised many when a man allegedly named Bunty Pandey, of the Chhota Rajan gang, appeared on television on Tuesday night and claimed the responsibility of Rajbir’s murder.
But the police have refused to take any conspiracy theory to the murder, but are open to it. It simply has dazzled many, the way Rajbir was killed despite lashed with Z-plus security.
Virtually even the theory of land mafia’s involvement cannot be written off. But the police claims that there was no third person involved in the murder and the weapon used had similar cartridges to that of the one that hit Rajbir have silenced many for the time being.
The man who won several awards for bravery and services to the nation though had been consigned to eternal flame, but many things have refused to die down. The secrets of his death buried temporarily with Rajbir’s body will be hopefully revealed after a thorough investigation doing jointly by the Gurgaon and Delhi police.
