Under the aegis of ‘Ministry of Human Resource and Development’ and the ‘Ministry of Textiles,’ the effort of National Literacy Mission in collaboration with National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum, the respective branches of both the ministries have organised a five-day Mega Exhibition of Crafts from March 14-18 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
Minister for Human Resources and Development (HRD) Arjun Singh inaugurated the Craft Exhibition on Friday under the theme of “KRITI 2008.”
Nearly 50 stalls have been arranged at National Handicrafts and Handloom Museum, Pragati Maidan to exhibit the products.
The exhibition are planned and executed by the Jan Shikshan Sansthans (JSS), which is an institution supported by National Literacy Mission (NLM) to impart vocation linked literacy programme.
About hundred JSS have participated in the exhibitions for displaying their products. Madhubani paintings, Tanjore paintings, Sujani work, Applique works from Pipli, Bidri work as also Pearl and artificial jewellery, Handloom Saree, Cane and bamboo products, Patta Chitra, decorative and gel candles etc. will reflect the inherent skills of the artisans and artists.
The JSS organise vocational training in different trades and skill upgradation in traditional and modern crafts mostly for the neo-literates and weaker sections of the society.
The purpose is to ensure that the beneficiaries are able to set up their own production units in their respective trades or obtain wage employment as skilled workers.
After receiving hilarious response from the visitors at the craft exhibition when it was first organised at Dilli Haat in November 2006. So to boost up the beneficiaries of JSS, the second such exhibition has been organised this time.
