Azamgarh, Jan 11 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has promises revamping Uttar Pradesh if people vote for his party in the upcoming assembly polls.
Addressing an election rally here, Gandhi urged the people to relieve themselves of 22 years of mismanaged governance by various political outfits and give an opportunity to his party to foster development in the state.
"For the last twenty-two years, you people have been suffering because of ill governance. I urge you to give us (Congress Party) five years and I promise that our party would herald change in these five years and within ten years of our governance the face of Uttar Pradesh would be changed," he said.
"Our party changed the face of Andhra Pradesh, New Delhi, Assam, Kerala and I promise you that we will change Uttar Pradesh," he added.
He also said that till India cannot develop until the country gets rid of poverty and unemployment.
"India is not shining today. Till the time even one individual is poor or is facing unemployment, our country cannot progress," added Gandhi.
Uttar Pradesh elections, spread through a seven phase polling in the months of February and March are seen as an opportunity for Congress party to re-establish foothold in its erstwhile political base in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.
Uttar Pradesh will elect a new 403-member state assembly in March, and the poll results are expected to broadly indicate trends for 2014 general elections. (ANI)
