Patiala, Jan 10 (ANI): Former Chief Minister and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday expressed confidence that his party would win above 70 seats in the upcoming state assembly polls.
Singh, who filed his nomination papers today as a candidate from Patiala constituency for the ensuing polls, when asked to comment on the numbers of seats that his party was expected in the upcoming polls, said: "Well, certainly 70 plus."
Amarinder Singh further said that the party received nearly 1550 applications, but the candidature of only 117 applicants was cleared.
"Around 1550 applications were received. We have around 117 candidates. So, around 1400 candidates were not able to get tickets but they are of our party. All of them are valuable members and I would take care of all of them," he said.
Amarinder Singh was the Chief Minister of the state between 2002 and 2007.
Punjab is one of five states due to hold elections this year on January 30.
