Coimbatore, Jan 10 (ANI): Leading nuclear missile scientist, A Sivanthu Pillai has said that the 'Brahmos-2' hypersonic missile which has a speed of mach 7, would be ready to fly in the next five years.
Pillai, a distinguished scientist with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), told mediapersons on the sidelines of a Rotary Club event in Coimbatore on Monday thea the DRDO is gearing up to develop the missile for the Indian Air Force.
"We have also started the work related to the hypersonic version, which will be called 'Brahmos-2'. The idea is to increase the speed from Mach 3 to Mach 7. So, seven times the speed of sound if we can achieve then it will be the fastest missile in the world," said Pillai.
Pillai said that at present there is no plan to export Brahmos, though there is a huge demand for the missile across the world.
He is at present the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Brahmos Aerospace Private Limited. (ANI)
