High tidal waves unleashed by Cyclone 'Thane' hit Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, Dec 29 (ANI): High tidal waves unleashed by cyclonic storm 'Thane' hit the coastal areas of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.

The storm, which began in the southwest and southeast of Bay of Bengal, has now moved westwards leading to intensification of the cyclone over the next 12 hours.

The cyclone is likely to cross Tamil Nadu between Nagapattinam and Chennai other than reaching Puducherry by morning of Friday.

Meanwhile, affected coastal areas are experiencing winds as strong as 100 to 125 kilometres per hour apart from heavy rains.

On advise of the weather department, local authorities have warned fishermen, along north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts, not to venture into sea. However those who are out at sea have been advised to return to the coast immediately. (ANI)
