Ahmedabad, Dec 25 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Ahmedabad has garnered respect and praise in the world of marathons, as the number of people participating and excelling in the field are increasing every year.
Modi, who flagged off the Sabarmati Marathon organised here, applauded the spirit of the city residents, pointing towards the increase in numbers of participants, every passing year.
"Ahmedabad city has organised a marathon. I wish all the luck to the participants. Today being the inauguration of the Kankaria carnival, I wish all the Christians a happy Christmas. In the world of marathons, Ahmedabad has made its own place. Since the last two years, thousands of people, especially the youth, has been participating in this event with great zeal," he told the media on the sidelines of the event.
Special arrangements including provision of water in route and guidance to the participants were the highlights of the marathon, which was organised on a large scale in comparison to the last year.
A total of 4,718 runners got the registration done to participate in the Sabarmati Marathon 2011, which was organised in collaboration with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
The runners participated in this event with great zeal and enthusiasm.
"I am taking part in this marathon because I am supporting my city, I love music and so I am supporting music and health. Marathon is very good for health. Everyone should participate whenever such marathons are organised," said Rupali, a participant. (ANI)
