Faizabad, Dec 23 (ANI): Terming the Lokpal Bill tabled by the government in Lok Sabha to be 'toothless', former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh has said that the draft of ombudsman bill would not be able to end the rampant corruption in the country.
Singh said that the bill presented in the Parliament would not be able to tackle corruption in the society, as it is toothless.
"The Lokpal Bill is handicapped and incomplete. The draft of Ombudsman bill would not be able to stop corruption," he added.
The government tabled the much-awaited Lokpal Bill in Parliament on Thursday. The Union Cabinet had earlier on Tuesday approved the Bill for creation of the Lokpal with Constitutional status.
The fresh Bill allows the Lokpal to oversee investigation of cases referred by it by the CBI. But, the Bill clearly mentions that CBI will continue to be under the government's administrative control.
Meanwhile, Kalyan Singh launched the election campaign of his party from Ayodhya for the upcoming 2012 assembly elections. He also issued the first list 162 candidates of his Jankranti Party candidates including from the Ayodhya assembly seat.
Singh further said that all the political parties are busy playing vote bank politics and adopting several measures to woe voters.
"All the parties including BJP are appeasing Muslims which is against the self esteem and pride of Hindus," added Singh.
The polls in Uttar Pradesh are seen as an opportunity for Congress party to re-establish a firm political base in the country's fifth largest and most populous state, before the 2014 general elections to the Parliament.
The 403-member legislative assembly will go to polls in May 2012. (ANI)
