Amritsar, Dec 18 (ANI): On one hand where cold weather and fog has disrupted normal life and brought the traffic on the road to a virtual halt, farmers in Amritsar were happy with the weather as it is proving beneficial for the standing wheat crop.
Farmers said that the decline in mercury and widespread fog in various parts of the state has lightened up the prospects of good production of wheat this year.
"The fog is beneficial for us. We are happy that this fog would result in good wheat yield. The quality of the wheat will be enhanced," said Jasmeet Singh, a farmer.
One of the farmers opines that the cold weather is favourable for the crop as the use of pesticides has been minimal this time. They are optimistic that the yield would be good this season.
"The winter season has begun in Amritsar and this yield higher profits to the farmer as the production would increase tremendously. It would be beneficial for the farmers," said Dalbir Singh, another farmer.
The contribution of Punjab is the highest in the procurement of foodgrains and it contributes over 70 percent of India's wheat yield. (ANI)
