New Delhi, Dec 15 (ANI): Communist Party of India (Marxist) lawmaker Sitaram Yechury has stated indicated that the Central Government had refused to commit on introducing the Lokpal Bill in this Parliament session.
Talking to reporters after attending an all party meeting over the issue, Yechury said: "The government has not yet said anything. We asked the government to introduce it in this session, but the government is not willing to make any commitment to whether they will introduce it or not. But we want it to be tabled in this session. There is still a week remaining in this session, almost ten days and I think it would be difficult to discuss it will all the parties."
Reiterating his party's demand, Yechury said that the bill should include Prime Minister, lower bureaucracy and federal police in its purview.
"The discussion again struck at the same point that till the time the government does not provide strong proposals on this bill, it is very difficult to comment on it. There are two ways out of this mess. First, the government can again introduce new proposals in front of all the parties or second, the government can take the inputs and bring the revised bill and we will consider it in the Parliament. But we again suggest that three issues are very clear, include CBI, inclusion of C and D (lower bureaucracy) and the inclusion of Prime Minister and as far as rest of our suggestion, the government said that they would consider them," Yechury added.
No final decision has yet been taken on the demand to include the prime minister, judges, lower bureaucracy and CBI within the ambit of the anti-graft bill.
The Lokpal Bill is seen as a weapon to root out corruption and nepotism from the government machinery and in public life.
The proposed Bill envisages the setting up of a national anti-orruption watchdog to check financial mismanagement and corrupt practices that have deeply pervaded several democratic and civic institutions of India. (ANI)
