Siliguri, Dec 9 (ANI): Covering an area of approximately 60 acres, the world's largest tea park was inaugurated by state authorities in West Bengal's Siliguri District recently.
The construction of the park was undertaken by state's Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) and assistance was provided to them by the Union ministry of Commerce and Indian Tea Board.
As many as 134 entrepreneurs have been allotted land in the park who are beginning to setup tea warehouses, factories and teashops with the help of state and central authorities.
Interacting with mediapersons, the Chairman of SJDA, Rudra Narayan Bhattacharjee said the project facilitated an improvement in infrastructure for storing and exporting tea.
"Actually, basically this is a tea park which consists of 59.5 acres of land and this is a joint venture by the government of West Bengal, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India had provided assistance for the development for the state for infrastructure for export, so total cost will be in the tune of more than 23 crores," said Bhattacherrjee.
He also added that the move would bring teahouses in the state under a single umbrella and result in the improvement in the quality of tea and the research related to it.
"So obviously it is our sincere desire and hope that once we can bring the tea related houses under one umbrella the quality of tea, research related with tea and proper storing of tea all will get a new boost so overall we hope that overall tea quality will increase in near future," said Bhattacherrjee.
