Poonch, Dec 9 (ANI): Based on intelligence inputs, a Special Operation Group of the state police conducted an extensive search in Sheen Dara region of Poonch District of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
The surveillance resulted in the seizure of considerable number of arms and ammunition.
The seizure included rounds of AK 47, 15 UBGL grenades and two UBGL Launchers, belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants.
Briefing the media, Javaid Iqbal, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Poonch mentioned that their search operation is still on as they are suspecting more militant movement in the Kashmir valley.
"We had received a specific information regarding the presence of militants in Sheen Dara area. Accordingly we had launched a search operation jointly with SOG (Special Operation Group). During the search operation we discovered a natural hideout of militants from where we recovered the items. Our search operation is still on. We suspect that this hideout belongs to LeT militants who are operating in the area," said Iqbal.
The restive region of Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed numerous militant attacks, insurgency, and infiltration from across the border in the last two decades.
The Himalayan region is one of the world's most militarized zones, with India deploying close to half a million troops to quell a rebellion that was triggered off in 1989. (ANI)
