Chandigarh, Dec 7 (ANI): Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh has lashed out at the Shiromani Akali Dal-led Punjab Government over its inaction in the controversy of a Sarpanch (village council head) manhandling a lady teacher in public.
"They have been beating people for the last many months. Whichever delegation of employees goes to see them, they are beaten up by the police, or beaten up by their own cadres, and this is going to happen after tomorrow (too). Don't think that this will stop due to this one sensationalism. They will beat other people who will go to see them. They have just come to a point where they don't care, I think," Singh told media here.
However, State Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said that there was no leniency as far as the law is concerned.
"In our government there is the rule of law, and according to it, whatever is correct, officers have to carry out their duties. It doesn't matter if it's a big person or small, the law is the same for everyone," Badal said.
The unsavoury incident had taken place at Lambi on Monday when Balwinder Singh belonging to the Shiromani Akali Dal and also the Sarpanch had slapped and roughed up lady teacher Virender Kaur.
Kaur was part of a delegation of teachers who wanted to meet Bhatinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the wife of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, with their demand at the function at Gidderbaha on Sunday.
A scuffle had broken out between the teachers' delegation, which wanted to submit a memorandum to Harsimrat Kaur demanding regularisation of their job, and Akali Dal workers who wanted the delegation to leave the place. (ANI)
