BYOFF or Bring Your Own Film Festival that kicks off on the shores of Puri on Thursday, Orissa, has been a mega annual event for its uniqueness with films from varied genre and duration. Creating a platform for budding talent in the field of film making it is also a prolific stage to reach out the audience and create a market.
In its 5th instance starting from Feb 21, the festival has evolved with a subaltern characteristics giving way to independent mind cinema out of mainstream. Amateur filmmakers from over 20 countries are on the arena to display their talent with the screening of nearly 140 films of different genre that offers the viewer a mix of entertainment and learning experience.
Many of short and out-of-the-box Cinemas are more to present innovation as the festival is out of any kind of hierarchy, competition and awards. It is more to let somebody see real cinema and get instant appreciation that drives you forward to broaden your creative bend of mind.
Organised in collaboration with INSCREEN, a film society based in Bhubaneswar, this is probably the only such festival that offers a chance everyone who makes short films, documentaries and above all an excellent platform to share their experience, vision, ideas and thought on various topics.
The sea shore of Puri and a rich culture of the state set a perfect ambiance for the event and also for artists from varied fields including paintings, music, dance, literature, photography, theatre and sculpture to exhibit their arty skills and talent.
Such film festivals are phenomenal in its creation as young film makers who want to make films of their own; not necessarily with all technicalities but with a video camera can come and screen their imagination.
The five-day long event has been scheduled to end on February 25.
