Kathmandu, Nov 26(ANI): Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai today arrived in Kathmandu to prepare for Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's visit to the country.

Mukherjee will be arriving in Kathmandu tomorrow to sign the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA), which will replace the old Agreement signed in 1987.

"I will be accompanying the Indian Finance Minister in his meetings with the leaders of Nepal. I look forward to meeting the Chief Secretary of Nepal, Madhav Ghimire to review progress in the implementation of the agenda agreed upon during the recent visit of the Prime Minister of Nepal to India, and of ways to expand and strengthen our bilateral ties," Mathai said on arrival in Kathmandu.

"Our Prime Ministers met again in the Maldives and agreed that action should be taken to take forward bilateral cooperation. India has an abiding interest in the peace, stability and prosperity of Nepal, and this motivates our wish to expand the cooperation between our two nations," he added.

Mukherjee will be visiting Nepal on a day's visit tomorrow at the invitation of Nepal Finance Minister Barshaman Pun 'Ananta'.

The two Finance Ministers will also exchange views on the further development of bilateral relations and review the progress on implementation of the action plan agreed upon during the last visit of Nepal Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to India on October 21.

During his visit, Mukherjee will also call on Bhattarai and Nepal President Ram Baran Yadav. (ANI)
