Addu City (Maldives), Nov. 9 (ANI): Pakistan could finally confer the Most favoured Nation (MFN) status to India after the commerce secretaries of both the countries meet in New Delhi at the end of this month.
Speaking to Asian News International (ANI) in Maldives, Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir said: "We are optimistic about normalisation of trade relationship with India, I believe that is also the intent on the Indian side, so good prospects of moving ahead.
"As you know, there is next round of talks between commerce secretaries this month in New Delhi, I am sure there will be good news," he added.
India has welcomed the approval of MFN status by the Pakistani cabinet and New Delhi is optimistic that the status could be granted to India soon.
Various studies including the one commissioned by Pakistan's planning commission indicate that once the MFN status is granted to India, the bilateral trade which currently stands 2.7 billion could jump to 6 billion US $. By Naveen Kapoor (ANI)
