Bhatinda, Nov 6 (ANI): one of the four convicts, Sukhdev Singh, found guilty of murdering a Pakistani national in 2009, released by the designated court at Dubai got a warm reception by his kith and kin on arrival at his ancestral home in Bathinda.
The court in Sharjah ordered their release on payment of more than rupees four crores as blood money that was arranged by S P Singh Oberoi, an Indian businessman based at Dubai.
Earlier, in its judgment the court had pronounced a death sentence to them after they were found guilty of murdering a Pakistan national in 2009.ukhdev Singh, who looked visibly relieved, said that he was arrested from his home during the night hours and was not even given the reason of arrest when he sought the details of his arrest.
Further Sukhdev Singh also added that he was extremely grateful to Oberoi and said that he had come like a messiah for Singh and the other convicts.
"We are very thankful to Mr. Oberoi. He sent us money in jail, made us talk on the phone. He promised to get us free from jail. I don't know why we were in jail. They just picked us up from our home in the night. They did not tell us anything. We were sleeping, and they simply took us away. They even arrested some other boys also," said Singh, who is a truck driver by profession.
The court provided reprieve to the convicts after the relatives of the victim, Misri Nazir Khan, said that they no longer wanted a death sentence for the guilty and agreed to receive the blood money that was being paid to them.
The Court had pronounced the death penalty on March 28, 2010, to the four, who were found guilty of murdering the Pakistani national in January 2009.
In all seventeen men, of whom 16 belonged to Punjab and one from Haryana, were released after the payment of blood money.he court ordered the release of the convicts who served their jail term till November 1 after they completed all the relevant legal formalities. (ANI)
