Ahmedabad, Nov 5(ANI): Activists in Ahmedabad today condemned the killing of an Right to Information (RTI) activist, who was actively involved in exposing illegal slaughter houses in Gujarat, by unknown assailants.
Nadeem Saiyed was attacked by some unidentified people at around 7.45 a.m. this morning and died on the spot.
Condemning the killing, social activist, Bharat Jala said that it is a sad moment for him.
"Today a very sad incident took place that an activist in Juhapura who was keenly involved in serving the common people was brutally murdered and we condemn this," he said.
Vinod Pandeya, another social activist, blamed the police and the state government for providing a weak protection.
"I think, this incident points out the utter failure of assured police protection. Our activists are dying due to this failed police protection. It is sad that the people in power enjoy full police protection, but cannot provide the same to our activists," he said.
Saiyed was also a key witness in the Naroda Patiya case. He had exposed some people who were allegedly involved in tampering of evidence.
The reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained, but it is believed that various public interest litigations filed in the Gujarat High Court may have been the reason behind killing.
Ahmedabad Police have launched manhunt for the killers. (ANI)
