Afghanistan urges Pak to "move beyond words" in dealing with militants

Istanbul , Wed, 02 Nov 2011 ANI

Istanbul, Nov 2 (ANI): Afghanistan has urged Pakistan to "move beyond words" and take concrete steps to deal with militants, which are a threat to both countries.

Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Jawed Ludin said on the sidelines of the meeting in Istanbul, that Kabul and Islamabad had been trying for several years to build trust "but I think we have failed to see results on the ground".

"So, we are at a stage where we need to move beyond words, beyond expressions of commitments. We need to get to a stage where we actually do concrete things that will address our concerns with regards to our security," the Daily Times quoted him, as saying.

On Tuesday, the Presidents of Pakistan and Afghanistan said they hoped the trilateral summit between the two countries and Turkey leads to a reduction of recently flared-up tensions.

The sixth trilateral summit between Turkey, Pakistan and Afghanistan, hosted by Turkish President Abdullah G?l on Tuesday in Besiktas, concluded with the three countries signing agreements and memoranda of understanding for cooperation in various areas and expressing willingness to join hands in working towards peace and security in the region.
