Libya names electronic engineer as new interim President

Tripoli, Tue, 01 Nov 2011 ANI

Tripoli, Nov 1 (ANI): Libya's National Transitional Council has selected an electronics engineer as the nation's new interim president.

Fifty-one members of the NTC chose Abdel-Rahim al-Keeb, from Tripoli, and he will appoint a new Cabinet in the coming days, the Daily Mail reports.

Jalal el-Gallal, an NTC spokesman, said that al-Keeb received 26 votes in the election.

One of his first duties would be to try and ensure peaceful stability in the country, with the UN Security Council urging Libyan authorities to prevent thousands of slain dictator Muammar Gaddafi's heavy weapons falling into the hands of terrorists.

The new government will run Libya in the coming months and would pave the way for general elections. (ANI)
