BJP seeks justice in 2G scam case, allegedly involving Chidambaram

Bhagalpur, Mon, 24 Oct 2011 ANI

Bhagalpur (Bihar), Oct 24 (ANI): Hoping that justice is delivered in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday accused the government of backing Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram in the case and said that the later should also be put behind bars for he is equally culpable as former Telecom Minister A. Raja.

"Today, on the 2G spectrum case, we hope we will get justice. In the 2G spectrum case, Chidambaram is equally culpable as A Raja, and he should also be in the same place where Raja is. The government is backing him, as when Manmohan Singh (Prime Minister) was questioned, he said this was a limitation of coalition," BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain told media persons here.

"But the involvement of Chidambaram proves that it is not due to this. Chidambaram is completely involved in it and today, we have hopes that justice will be done," he added.

The telecom scam, one of India's biggest graft cases ever, may have cost 39.57 billion dollars in revenue to the public exchequer as per the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

A. Raja was sacked in November last year and later arrested after being charged with giving away telecom licences in 2008 for a pittance, at meagre prices of 2001 in the CAG report.

Raja is presently facing trial along with a group of telecom executives and DMK lawmaker Kanimozhi.

A local court in New Delhi had on Saturday framed charges against Raja, Kanimozhi and 15 others including top executives of private telecom operators and other companies engaged in money laundering.

Shahnawaz Hussain also condemned the recent attacks on veteran social activist Anna Hazare's close aides.

"The Congress leaders often make baseless statements against people who are fighting corruption. Congress leaders are in a state of anxiety and when a person is worried, and then he loses his command over language. The language of Congress leaders is deteriorating. Sanjay Nirupam (Congress leader) sometimes wears Gandhian cap of Anna Hazare in the fear of public, and at other times he says that shoe hurlers are present everywhere," said Hussain.

"So, he (Sanjay Nirupam) must remember that public is against corruption and if the Congress leaders will make such statements against the public and those who are fighting corruption, then they would have to face the consequences," he added.

The attack on Arvind Kejriwal happens to be the second attack on a member of Team Anna in the last ten days. Earlier on October 12, senior Supreme Court lawyer Bhushan was beaten up by suspected to be from Sriram Sena activists in his court chambers over his stand on Jammu and Kashmir.

It may be recalled here that there have been two attacks on Anna Hazare's close aides earlier this month.

A youth named Jeetendra Pathak had hurled a slipper at RTI crusader Arvind Kejriwal in Lucknow on October 18, while he was on his way to attend a programme as part of their campaign against corruption.

Earlier on October 12, senior Supreme Court lawyer and Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan was beaten up by suspected to be from Sriram Sena activists in his court chambers over his stand on Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
