Washington, Oct 12 (ANI): Michael Douglas and Matt Damon are set to play a gay couple in the new HBO film 'Behind the Candelabra', a biopic about legendary pianist/entertainer Liberace.
Academy Award-winning Steven Soderbergh will helm the film, in which Douglas will star in the lead role while Damon has been cast as his young lover, Scott Thorson, reports CBS News.
Liberace's colorful career was rife with controversy over his sexuality. The singer constantly denied that he had a relationship with Thorson.
In 1988, Thorson published 'Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace'.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film's production is scheduled to start summer 2012 in Los Angeles, Palm Springs and Las Vegas. No airdate has been set though.
The film's title refers to the trademark candelabra always gracing Liberace's grand piano when he performed. He was also known for his outrageous costumes and extravagant jewelry. (ANI)
