Hisar, Oct 9 (ANI): Residents of Hisar appear to be supporting Anna Hazare's aide Arvind Kejriwal's appeal not to vote for the Congress Party in the Hisar by-poll, as they see the ruling party steeped in corruption.
Bhishen Singh, a local here, expressed his displeasure over the attitude of the Congress Party, and said that the people would not vote for the ruling party if it fails to introduce an effective Lokpal Bill.
"He (Arvind Kejriwal) made us understand right things 'Congress is corrupt', they are not introducing Lokpal Bill and if they fail to introduce the bill, then we will not vote the Congress party," said Bhishen Singh, a local.
It may be recalled that Hazare had proclaimed that he and his supporters, and the 'India Against Corruption' (IAC) group, would campaign against the Congress party as the ruling party failed to pay heed to their demand to introduce at the earliest an effective ant-graft bill.
Jitendra, another local here, said the main objective is not to elect the Congress Party, as many ministers from the party have been found guilty for making the system opaque.
"When Anna Ji was on a fast-unto-death, then we also supported him and today also we are with him but one of our brothers told about the problems and that problem is still there. He said that all these 44-45 candidates are corrupt and we don't have any other options as whom should we vote," said Jitendra.
"Now, we will try to vote the right person, who is an independent candidate, with whom we are satisfied. Our main objective is that the Congress doesn't win elections and then Congress will come to know that people are with Anna Hazare and then they will have to introduce the Lokpal Bill at any cost," he added.
Kejriwal earlier in the day affirmed that the movement led by Hazare was not supportive of any other party.
"This is a part of democracy, if the ruling party is not working as it should be then a voice should be raised against them. People should be asked not to vote for them, vote for anyone you want, but not them. We are not supporting any party. We are just asking people to not vote for them, as they are not governing properly and are indulging in corruption," said Kejriwal.
"The opposition parties will not benefit from our campaign, but by the government's own follies. They did no work, they are corrupt, they are not carrying out strong steps against corruption and they did not get the Lokpal Bill," he added.
Kejriwal also reiterated that the civil society activists had no personal grudges against the Congress Party and were simply against the rampant corruption.
"We have no personal enmity with the Congress, neither are we against it. We just want a Lokpal Bill. The day a strong and an effective Lokpal bill is passed, our movement will be withdrawn and we will not campaign against them," he added.
Team Anna had on Saturday launched a blistering attack on the Congress Party ahead of the Lok Sabha by poll in Hisar, asking voters to inflict a 'historic' defeat on the party for not bringing the Jan Lokpal Bill.
Hazare has issued an appeal to the electorate through a CD asking them to defeat the Congress in the by poll.
Kejriwal and Sisodia will camp in Hisar for the next three days, while former senior police officer and civil society activist Kiran Bedi is expected to visit the place on Monday.
The by-election to the Hisar seat, to be held on October 13, was necessitated after former Haryana Chief Minister and sitting MP Bhajan Lal's death in June. (ANI)
