Nagpur, Oct 8 (ANI): Asserting that the government is committed to bring an effective Lokpal Bill in the Winter Session of Parliament, Union Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid on Saturday said the Standing Committee is making all efforts to ensure that an effective legislation in this regard is formed.
"We had good discussions with them (civil society activists). When Vilasrao Deshmukh met them, then they had through a letter appealed to the Prime Minister that three core points should be taken into consideration before the formation of a Lokpal Bill. They had not raised the issue of Jan Lokpal Bill then. At that time, they had put forward three points. Keeping in mind all the three points, the Standing Committee is making all efforts to ensure that an effective Lokpal Bill is formed," Khurshid told media persons here.
"What we have promised them and what we consider our responsibility. We will carry out that responsibility. We will bring it (Lokpal Bill) in the Winter Session of the Parliament. There is no session before that. Winter session has not started yet. When the Winter Session has hasn't yet begun, why CDs are coming from them I don't know. This you must ask them," he added.
Ahead of the Hisar Lok Saba bypoll, Anna Hazare on Friday launched his campaign against the ruling Congress Party appealing people not to vote for the party as it had failed to introduce the Jan Lokpal Bill in Parliament.
Armed with a recorded message by Hazare, some of his team members began their anti-corruption and anti-Congress campaign from Hisar today.
The by-election to the Hisar seat, to be held on October 13, was necessitated after former Haryana Chief Minister and sitting MP Bhajan Lal's death in June. (ANI)
