Lahore, Oct 8(ANI): The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry has issued orders for the transfer of the judge who awarded the death sentence to Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, the self-confessed assassin of former Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer.
Qadri, one of Taseer's own elite security force protectors, had shot him dead on January 4 because of his vocal opposition to the blasphemy law that was recently used to sentence a Pakistani-Christian woman, Asia Bibi, to death.
District and Sessions Judge Pervez Ali Shah has been on leave since he handed down the death sentence to Qadri, The News reports.
The LHC Chief Justice has placed the services of Pervez Shah at the disposal of the Punjab government, and transferred and posted him from the anti-terrorism court-II in Rawalpindi to the Child Protection Court in Lahore.
The incumbent presiding officer in the child protection court, Muhammad Muzaffar Ali Khan (D andSJ), has been repatriated in public interest, said a notification issued by LHC registrar. (ANI)
