New Delhi, Tue, 04 Oct 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Oct 4 (ANI): Reacting to veteran social activist Anna Hazare's renewal of agitation, Congress General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi on Tuesday said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government is committed to bring an effective Lokpal Bill with an aim to combat rampant corruption in the country.

Congress General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said that the government is taking all possible steps to ensure that an effective Lokpal Bill comes into force.

"Both Congress and UPA (United Progressive Alliance) is committed to an effective Lokpal Bill. And this commitment has been made before Anna Hazare even raised the issue," Dwivedi told media persons here.

"He (Anna) should have trust on the collective wisdom, which is represented by the Indian Parliament. Therefore, when collective wisdom will comes forth, an effective and strong Ombudsman Bill will be formulated," he added.

Meanwhile, Coal Minister Shriprakash Jaiswal, said that it is inappropriate to comment on the issue of the Lokpal Bill, since the matter is pending with the standing committee.

"If a decision is pending with the standing committee, then it is not right to pass a judgment on it. If one is not satisfied with the decision of the standing committee, then one can complain," he said.

Hazare earlier in the day announced that he would begin a three-day fast in Lucknow just before the Uttar Pradesh polls if Jan Lokpal Bill is not brought during Parliament's Winter Session.

He said he would tour all five election-bound states and ask voters not to vote for Congress if bill is not passed by then.

74-year-old Hazare had staged an indefinite hunger strike against graft that he gave up on the 13th day on August 28 when the government agreed to deliberate the issues raised by him and his forum vis-a-vis the passage and enactment of the Lokpal Bill, a suggestion that has received unprecedented nationwide backing.
