Kolkata, Oct 1(ANI): In an effort to convey the message of peace in the Maoist affected areas of West Bengal, 18 inmates, including, four women, from Kolkata's Presidency Correctional Home and Alipur Correctional Home staged a play of noble laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore named 'Bisarjan'.
"The theme of the play is that, one should give up violence and pay attention to peace and love. The message for the Maoists is that they should not indulge in violence and bloodshed; this is our only request to them," said Aparajita Bose, a female prisoner who took part in this play.
The event, held on Friday, was the outcome of the initiative undertaken by West Bengal Sports Minister Madan Mitra, and organizer of the event who is also president of a community, which organizes Hindu festivals.
While interacting with mediapersons at the event, Mitra said that all the inmates, who participated, were facing life imprisonment and they have been transformed after they realized that there should be no bloodshed in the society.
"Our chief minister is saying that whatever problem is there let us solve it through discussions, there should not be anymore bloodshed. And this appeal has gone to Lalgarh, Jangalmahal (the tribal-populated district), even after the appeal of chief minister blood shed is still there," Mitra said.
"How long the people of Bengal will tolerate all these things? Even the inmates who were involved with so many bloody incidents are also repenting: this is not the path, this is not the ultimate. The ultimate is peace and that is the message," he added. (ANI)
