Zydus Cadila gifts NUDOXA for cancer patients

The global pharmaceuticals company Zydus Cadila announced the launch of NUDOXA, a drug to be used in the cancer therapy on Friday.

The drug is manufactured by Zydus –BSV Pharma Pvt Ltd, a joint venture company of Zydus Cadila and Bharat Serums and Vaccines Pvt Ltd and the drug is marketed by Zydus Biogen.

The company claimed that NUDOXA is a Novel Drug Delivery System (NDDS) product and is used in chemotherapy a treatment of cancer and hailed the drug as having reduced toxicity and side effects.

NUDOXA is a new variant of first generation drug Doxorubien which could fight tumours and other cancer but this drug later showed life threatening side effects. The new variant prevents major side effects of the cancer therapy.

The company claimed that this drug is a breakthrough in cancer therapy and can be used in the treatment of ovarian cancer, breast cancer and AIDS related Kaposi Sarcoma in HIV infected people.

The drug is having patent rights in India and South Africa, and the company is seeking to acquire patents in EU, the USA and Japan and other countries.

Zydus-BSV Pharma was founded in 2005 and has concerted its effort to make drugs which can help in targeted therapies in cancer.

Certain abnormalities in the genetic material causes cancer in transformed cell, though many other mode of treatment is their but the properties of cancerous cell to invade other cell limits the effectiveness of the treatment. Toxicity due to chemotherapy and radiation has also known to limit the effectiveness of the treatment.

The new drug as claimed can address the main problem of side effects of chemotherapy in cancer which is responsible for 13% of all deaths.
