98 percent of Chinese colleges doing nothing to tackle smoking

Beijing, Thu, 15 Sep 2011 ANI

Beijing, Sept 15(ANI): China's tobacco control organization has said 98 percent of 800 colleges in the country have barely tackled smoking.hina's Tobacco-control Association (CTA) investigation found only 16 of 800 colleges imposed the tobacco-control check, and that too leniently, the China Daily reports.

CTA Vice Director Xu Guihua said the probe, which was conducted without any prior notification, was recorded on video.

CTA also found cigarette stubs at 73.2 percent of campuses, especially in the male student dormitories.

The report said the assessment about smoking was deduced from cigarette stubs found indoors, anti-tobacco billboards, ashtrays, no tobacco advertising on campus, outdoor smoking zones and rules to prohibit smoking on campus.(ANI)
