Bangalore. Sep 11 (ANI): A walkathon was organised here on Sunday to spread awareness about the importance of physiotherapy.
The walkathon, which was organised by the Bangalore physiotherapy network, marked the celebrations of World Physiotherapy Day, designated on September 8.
Over 200 people, with the majority being specially-abled, participated in this walkathon that stretched over 3.2 kilometres.
The event saw the participation of five times Para Olympic Champion and Padma Shri recipient Dr. Malathi k Holla, who stressed on the importance of physiotherapy in the lives of the specially-abled.
"This is the physiotherapy day and I am very impressed and happy to take part in this, because physiotherapy is essential for people like us especially because we are physically challenged people and our muscles has to be trained and tuned and its like a gym, our body is a gym, so these doctors just tune our muscles," said Dr. Holla.
The focus of the event was to spread awareness amongst people about the significant role physiotherapy plays in healing physical ailments and its role as an avenue for the specially-abled to become healthier.
"This is about supporting physical therapy and supporting the physically disabled. What we like to convey is that its important that people have the ability to get well and to be healthy and that there is an avenue for people to become more healthy through physical therapists and through going to physical therapy," said Jared Wardin, a participant.
World Physical Therapy Day falls on September 8 every year, and is an opportunity for physical therapists from all over the world to raise awareness about the crucial contribution their profession makes to keeping people well, mobile and independent. (ANI)
