Karachi, August 24(ANI): The Pakistan and Indian cricket boards are facing logistical problems in scheduling their bilateral Test series in March-April next year, as the Asia Cup is clashing with the hugely-anticipated series.
According to a senior Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official, the statements emanating from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about finding a suitable time slot for resuming the much-awaited bilateral series pertained to this problem, the Daily Times reports.
"The problem is that both Pakistan and India have a packed international calendar for the next eight months and there are also instances where when Pakistan are free, India are busy, or when India are free, Pakistan are scheduled to play matches," the official was quoted as saying.
The official said that when the chief executives' meeting would be held next month, the PCB would hold talks with its Indian counterpart to resolve the issue, adding that some solution would have to be found since the Asian cricket Council (ACC) and member countries also did not want the Asia Cup to be postponed, as the ACC had commitments with its broadcasters.
"The Asian cricket Council (ACC) and the Indians are trying to find a solution because under International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations, bilateral tours take precedence over everything else," the official pointed out.
The official also conceded that the PCB was keen for the bilateral series to resume, and that Pakistan wanted to tour India and was also willing to play the Indians at any neutral venue.
India has not played any bilateral cricket match with Pakistan since late 2007, and cancelled a full tour to Pakistan in early 2009 in the wake of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. (ANI)
