Islamabad, Aug 18 (ANI) Atleast 33 people have been killed in the past 24 hours in the ongoing bloodbath in Karachi.
Most deaths were the result of drive-by shootings in the two districts Lyari and Baldia.
Some victims were shot to death after being kidnapped, CNN reports.
Officials said the killings appear to be linked to ongoing rivalries between three political parties vying for power- the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the Awami National Party (ANP) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Though the PPP views Karachi as a crucial political battleground, politics in Karachi is dominated by the MQM.
The ANP is a secular Pashtun party based in northwest Pakistan, whose supporters have migrated to Karachi due to the ongoing violence in their home region.
Analysts said the lack of law enforcement has allowed supporters of political parties to adopt a gang-like mentality.
According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, over 1,000 people have been killed this year in Karachi.(ANI)
