Focus back on Jan Lokpal Bill: Bhushan

New Delhi, Thu, 18 Aug 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Aug 18 (ANI): A day after Anna Hazare and government reached an agreement allowing the former to carry out his hunger strike, social activist Shanti Bhushan on Thursday said after this win, the focus is back on what started it all-the Jan Lokpal Bill.

Talking to reporters, Bhushan said: "I am very happy that ultimately good sense has prevailed on the government and it has agreed to permit Anna to fast for 14 days and that shows Anna was never unreasonable in his demands."

Earlier, civil society activist Arvind Kejriwal has said Hazare will leave Tihar Jail only when the Ramlila ground is ready.

Talking to reporters outside Tihar, Kejriwal said: "The Ramlila ground is being prepared. Only when it is ready to go, will Anna come out of Tihar Jail. As things stand today, the MCD has to prepare the grounds since it is full of muck. The ground has to be made ready, because if the crowd reaches Ramlila grounds before we reach, it will be difficult to set up tents for them."

Earlier, former senior police officer and social activist Kiran Bedi had said Hazare will emerge out of Tihar Jail this afternoon and reach the Ram Lila Ground at around 3 p.m.

The fresh proposals came after marathon discussions between the Hazareeam and the police right through Wednesday.

Initially, the police were insisting on allowing only five days' of protest, which was turned down by the activists who asked for permission for one month.

Police had earlier denied permission to Hazare to hold his indefinite fast at Jai Prakash Narain Park near Ferozeshah Kotla Ground after the 73-year-old social activist refused to give an undertaking that he would restrict his anti-corruption protest to three days and the number of protesters to 5,000.
