Security stepped up across India ahead of Independence Day celebrations

Imphal/ Lucknow, Aug 13(ANI): Security forces have been put on high alert in Imphal, Manipur, and Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, ahead of the 64th Independence Day celebrations.

 

Stringent security measures have been taken to counter any possible security threat in and around Imphal.

 

It is being done in the wake of a joint call given by various militant outfits in the region to boycott the Independence Day celebrations.

 

The Independence Day celebrations in the state will begin at 9.30 a.m. in the morning, when Manipur Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh will hoist the national flag at 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion ground.

 

The district police have been taking all the precautionary measures to ensure a peaceful Independence Day celebration in the state.

 

"The Imphal district police is on very high alert and security measures have been beefed up in the district ahead of the coming Independence Day celebrations, following boycotts called by various banned outfits," said Kamei Angam Ramanus, Additional Superintendent of Police, East Imphal.

 

Security measures in the state capital have already been beefed up to counter attack any anti-social activists and militants, who could disrupt the celebration.

 

The government of Manipur has undertaken various measures to strengthen the security arrangement which includes deploying various security personnel from Assam Rifles and paramilitary forces like the Border Security Force (BSF), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at strategic points across the state.

 

The tightening of security measures echoed in other parts of the country as well.

 

Brij Lal, Special Director General of Police (Law and Order), Lucknow, in a news conference pointed out that all the security agencies in the state had been put on high alert prior to the celebrations in the state. (ANI)
