Rourkela, Aug 13(ANI): The Anti-Naxalite Squad of Orissa Police has arrested three Maoists, including two women, and seized arms and cash amounting to 7.6 million rupees.
Briefing the mediapersons, Yashwant Jethwa, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Rourkela Range, said that a man has been identified as 25-year-old Prasanta alias Shiv Munda.
A member of the Dakshin Chhota Nagpur Zonal Committee of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-M), Munda was operating in the forest areas of Orissa and Jharkhand, Jethwa informed.
He said that the Maoists were arrested while trying to escape in a vehicle.
"Three Maoist cadres have been arrested and forwarded to court. They are all important leaders and cadres of Dakshin Chhota Nagpur Zonal Committee, which is active in surrounded jungle area on Jharkhand as well as Orissa side," Jethwa said said.
Along with the money, a pistol, live bullets and four mobile phones were seized from the arrested Maoists, who were wanted in at least 15 cases of murder, rioting, arson and looting.
"We have seized 7,632,700 rupees cash from their possession, one pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, four numbers of mobile phone. During interrogation they have confessed their involvement in about more than 15 cases of Maoist violence, which includes murder, robbery, dacoity and arson inside Rourkela district of Orissa. They have also confessed their involvement in large number of heinous crimes on the Jharkhand side," Jethwa said.
The women cadres are also alleged to be involved in several crimes. (ANI)
