Islamabad, August 12(ANI): The Pakistan Government is determined to boost the national nuclear programme, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said.
Speaking in the National Assembly to mark the session of the first constituent assembly that was held on August 11 in Karachi in 1947, Gilani vowed to steer the country out of crises through collective efforts by following the vision and philosophy of Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Gilani told the House that Pakistani armed forces were fully capable of guarding national frontiers, adding that country's nuclear assets were fully secure.
"Like we passed the 18th Amendment and NFC Award collectively, we pledge today to make our economy and defence more strong... I assure you that our nuclear programme is in safe hands and no covetous eye can be cast on it as our armed forces are capable to protect our nuclear assets and frontiers," The Nation quoted him, as saying.
Paying rich tributes to the Father of the Nation, the said prime minister that the Muslims got an independent state through democratic means under the able guidance of Quaid-e-Azam, and now 'we have to make collective efforts for its development and prosperity'.
"It is our responsibility to strengthen the country and make strenuous efforts to wipe out the menace of extremism and terrorism," he said.
Gilani stressed the need for making concerted efforts to protect Pakistan, saying: "If we are together, we can meet all the challenges of economy, terrorism and law and order in Karachi." (ANI)
