Dog ban in South China city evokes citizens' concern

Jiangmen , Wed, 03 Aug 2011 ANI

Jiangmen, August 3(ANI): Dogs will be prohibited entry to urban public places and illegally raised dogs will be confiscated or hunted in Jiangmen city from August 26, according to a Guangdong provincial government order.

The notice, jointly issued by the Jiangmen's five bureaus, defines the city's urban areas, including Pengjiang District, Jianghai District and Xinhui District as restricted areas where the raising all kinds of dogs, including pet dogs, has been banned.

"We hope that all citizens will cooperate with us in creating a civilized Jiangmen and send their dogs to outskirts or rural areas," Xinhua quoted a municipal committee official, as saying.

The notice has caused concern among citizens.

"It's unfair to kill all dogs without allowing people to get their dog a license. Doing this shows no respect for life," a Chinese citizen said.

Others have called for a more reasonable regulation on the raising of dogs. (ANI)
