Kids take more risk accepting strangers' requests online

London , Sat, 30 Jul 2011 ANI

London, July 30 (ANI): A new research has found that while half of the children use Internet when there is no one to supervise them, one in seven people accept all friend requests on social networking sites such as Facebook.

One third of those aged between 11 and 15 admitted to taking more risks while using the Internet than they would do in real life, such as befriending strangers, reports the Daily Express.

While many of the users admit that they never met the people, whom they added as friends, more than half do not even tell anyone about bad experiences they have had online.

According to the research by security software company Trend Micro, 17 per cent have used their privacy settings to stop their parents from viewing their pages on social networking sites.

Only a quarter of the total users are friends with their parents on Facebook or other similar sites.

While one in four parents said they suspected their children hiding something in their online activity, 57 per cent of youngsters in fact admitted doing so. (ANI)
