Washington, July 24 (ANI): The Republican Party has made big gains among white voters since Democrat President Obama came to power in 2008, a research poll has revealed.
According to a new Pew Research poll, 52 percent of white voters now identify themselves as Republicans, compared with 39 percent who are Democrats.
But, the Democratic Party's maintains its dominance among black and Hispanic voters. The poll says 86 percent of black voters and 64 percent of Hispanics are aligned with the Democrats.
In 2008, 88 percent of blacks and 66 percent of Hispanics voted for Democrats, and 6 percent of blacks and 28 percent of Hispanics for Republicans, Fox News reports.
The poll has also revealed that the Republicans have made more gains among the young and poor sections of white people.
The findings pose a challenge to Obama as he seeks re-election next year. Republicans made big gains in the U.S. Congress and state governments in the 2010 mid-term elections and are attempting to deny Obama a second term as president.(ANI)
