Ranchi (Jharkhand), July 22 (ANI): Security forces raided a Maoist camp and recovered a cache of arms and ammunitions in Bundu-Tamar area near Ranchi district of Jharkhand on Friday, running down their plan to attack on police.

Acting on a tip off that Maoists were camped at the forest designing plans for an attack, a platoon of paramilitary force - Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) - along with state police launched a combing operation in the area.

Talking to mediapersons, Praveen Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Ranchi said all the explosives and landmines were recovered from Maoists hideout.

"Today morning, there was a search operation in Bundun -Tamar area, there was information that CPIM Maoists have concealed some explosives and landmines in the forest area in a bid to use against CRPF and police. And it is a huge recovery," said Kumar.

All the explosives were recovered from the natural bunkers of CPI-M so as to use against the police force.

Kumar added that recovering explosives from hideouts were an achievement as the police foiled their plans to carry out an attack on police.

"Two claymore mines, and each mine weighs 20 kg. These were recovered from Busudi and Gazara forest area; they were hidden in one place," said Kumar.

Two landmines, 24 bullets of 303 and 308 gelatin sticks, 67 double detonators booster, 2 walkie-talkie, two country made rifles have been recovered from their hideout.

Security forces have continued the combing operation in nearby villages to nab the escaped Maoists.

The government has been providing assistance to the states in eliminating the Maoist insurgency, which has spread into the interiors of 20 of India's 28 states.

Analysts view that the guerrilla wars, waged mostly from the forests of central and eastern India by ultras of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist, pose the biggest threat to the country's internal security.

Hundreds of people have been killed and injured in the violence, perpetrated by both the rebels and the security forces in counter-insurgency operations.

Maoists have significantly increased their presence in tribal and rural areas in the states of Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa. (ANI)
