Gurgaon (Haryana), July 22 (ANI): Police busted a cricket-betting gang on Friday and arrested three people in Gurgaon, Haryana.
The arrested bookies were found betting on the ongoing cricket test match between India and England and were preparing to bet on the future matches of the series as well. Police recovered about 70 functional telephone lines, six suitcases full of laptops and mobile phones.
The prime accused, Amit Kumar, was arrested during the World Cup, 2011.
The Gurgaon police had gathered secret information from their sources and found that three bookies were involved in online betting.
"There is a bookie, by the name of Amit Kumar, we were able to gather secret information about him. These men were involved in online betting. We raided their house and arrested two more men in this case, Karan Sharma and Chin Bahadur. We recovered 70 functional telephone lines, through which they would bet," said Amarjeet Singh, Station House Officer, Sushant Lok Police Station, Gurgaon.
They also recovered two colour television sets, one set top box, four tape recorders and one laptop from the arrested bookies.
The bookies operate not only at the national but also at the international level. (ANI)
