IBM opens offshore global delivery centre in Noida

Global IT service giant IBM on Tuesday announced to expand its Global Delivery Centre in India. For covering more mass in the north India, IBM has planned to open a new GDC in Noida, the National Capital Region of the country and situated in Uttar Pradesh.

IBM Inc. has also announced in a published statement to open its second centre in the same vicinity by mid of this year to make its strength stronger that employs around 3,000 employees collectively. Both the GDC will be able to cover a large portion of Northern India and cater the outsourcing business along with delivering application and consultancy services more efficiently in the region.

“These centers will be an integral part of IBM's global delivery network, spread across three-dozen countries around the world,” IBM stated. This will be the sixth GDC of IBM across the country comprising six locations Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata and now Noida (NCR). These global delivery centres will facilitate IBM to enhance its existing application services portfolio to support a growing global client base.

"This investment in Noida is a natural step for us to increase service capacity and broader market reach to help improve our ability to deliver industry-leading services to our global clients," said Rajesh Nambiar, IBM general manager and vice-president of global delivery centre in India.

IBM had announced in June 2006 to invest nearby USD6 billion in India in coming three years, however, IBM has not disclosed yet the investment included in newly proposed GDC infrastructure.

IBM is also eyeing to hire highly skilled and proficient technical graduates and post graduates to handle the project and technology solutions. IBM would prefer IT professionals with having skills in IT strategy and architecture, business consulting, enterprise solutions, software testing, and business intelligence, as Nambiar informed to media.

IBM began its offshore business operation in 1992 in NCR, and willing to focus on the SMB market in Uttar Pradesh, as per statement said. There are approximately 70,000 employees in India working for IBM in 10 cities of the country.
