Kinnaur (Himachal Pradesh), July 11 (ANI): India's largest private sector hydro-power project-the Karcham Wangtoo (1000 MW) project-in Kinnaur District of Himachal Pradesh is scheduled for commissioning on Independence Day this year .
This launching will take place three months ahead of schedule. It was supposed to be inaugurated on November 17, 2011.
Constructed at a cost of about Rs. 7000 crores , the 1000 MW Karcham Wangtoo project is built as a run-of-the-river project over the River Sutlej by the Jaypee Karcham Hydro Corporation Ltd, (JKHCL) a subsidiary of the Jaypee Group.
D. P.Goyal , the project's managing director, said its reach would be between the villages of Karcham and Wangtoo in Kinnaur, upstream of the Nathpa- Jhakri project.
The work on the project began on April 1, 2006. The Jaypee Group is already running two hydro-power projects-the 300 MW Baspa-II project in Himachal Pradesh and the 400 MW Vishnuprayag project in Uttarakhand. (ANI)
