London, July 6 (ANI): Christine Lagarde, who recently took office as the International Monetary Fund managing director, will be bound by tough ethical rules as the fund tightens its rules following last month's departure of Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
As part of the contract she will sit in one-on-one sessions with IMF ethics chief Virginia Canter and have it explained to her that the IMF encourages the advancement of women and discourages sexual harassment, bullying or other intimidation, Fox News reports.
On Tuesday, the IMF published Lagarde's contract, including her salary of 467,940 dollars per year after taxes.
Lagarde's contract includes tightened language, prohibiting her from any publicly partisan activity while with the IMF.
"As Managing Director, you are expected to observe the highest standards of ethical conduct, consistent with the values of integrity, impartiality and discretion," Lagarde's contract stated.
"You shall strive to avoid even the appearance of impropriety in your conduct," it said.
Although Strauss-Kahn pre-emptively resigned as managing director in May shortly after his arrest for alleged sexual assault, questions were raised earlier in his tenure about the ethical rules binding the IMF management.
An investigation into an affair he had with a staff member in 2008 concluded that he had not abused his position but had acted improperly.
The IMF's ethics rules were toughened in response to the episode, and the letter makes it clear they apply to the IMF's higher management as well as its staff. (ANI)
