Islamabad, Wed, 06 Jul 2011 ANI

Islamabad, July 6(ANI): Pakistan's inquiry commission on the Abbottabad incident has directed the Interior Ministry and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency to ensure that Osama bin Laden's family is not repatriated from Pakistan till the completion of the probe.

Bin Laden, who had evaded capture for a decade, was killed on May 2 in a top-secret raid involving a small team of US Special Forces on his Abbottabad hideout. Three of his widows are in Pakistani custody since the US operation.

According to sources, there is a possibility that the commission might interview members of Osama's family, which is why it has asked the Interior Ministry and the ISI not to repatriate them till the completion of the probe.

In its preliminary meeting presided over by Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal, the commission also decided that it might summon civil, military and political leaders of the country, if needed.

The commission met in accordance with the terms of reference assigned to it to ascertain the full facts about bin Laden's presence in Pakistan, to investigate the circumstances and facts regarding the US operation, determine the nature, background and causes of lapses by authorities concerned, if any, and make consequential recommendations.

During the meeting, the commission chalked out modalities for its working and decided that its proceedings would be independent, transparent, thorough, impartial, nonpartisan and in camera, whenever required.

The commission has also decided that it can co-opt experts of specified fields for any kind of assistance in the probe.

Individuals interested in appearing before the commission with information pertaining to the Abbottabad incident would be invited through the media to inform the commission by July 31, 2011, The News reports.

The identity of such individuals will be kept confidential and they will be legally protected. (ANI)
