New York, July 4 (ANI): The sequence of events that led to the New York hotel maid to accuse Dominique Strauss-Kahn of raping her in his suite has indicated that she may have had no premeditated plans to target him, sources have said.

They also claimed that the hotel maid was told that he had checked out before she went to clean his hotel room.

"Nothing has been raised to indicate that she was targeting him," a source close to the investigation, said turning down suggestions that the Sofitel maid set out to trap the powerful French man, the New York Daily News reports.

"One of the hotel employees who had just cleared some room service trays said he told her the room was empty just before she went inside," the source added.

Card key evidence has shown that the maid had gone into the room next to Strauss-Kahn's at 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on May 14, and that she entered his suite for the first time at 12:06 p.m.

Strauss-Kahn checked out of the hotel at 12:28 p.m, and the woman returned to the suite with a supervisor at 12:30 p.m.

All these details, clubbed with DNA evidence indicating a sexual interaction between the two, seemed to make a strong case in favour of the maid.

"It was rare to have so much corroboration on a sex crime," the source said.

Strauss-Kahn was released without bail last week after prosecutors admitted that there were 'serious credibility issues' with his accuser.

"It's clear that the strength of this case has been affected by substantial credibility issues with the witness," Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon had told the court. (ANI)
