New Delhi, Jun 28 (ANI): Congress party has criticized the functioning of the Bahujan Samaj Party ruled Uttar Pradesh government and accused it of being the most corrupt in the country.

General Secretary of Congress Digvijay Singh said this while interacting with the mediapersons in New Delhi on Tuesday (June 28).

He said the Mayawati-led government is neck-deep in corruption, and demanded an inquiry by the country's nodal probe agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into several criminal cases like the attack on RTI activist and murders of medical officers.

He charged the Uttar Pradesh government of fooling the media and the masses with plethora of lies and cited the recent attack on a television journalist by policemen in Lucknow.

"In a democracy every one has the right to give his or her opinion but in Uttar Pradesh the mediapersons are forcibly arrested. Later it is announced that the police officers have been suspended even though no suspension order has been released. Media and public has been fooled by the police and all this has come out in the open now," said Singh.

Further criticising the state administration, he noted that it was a cover up as for the death of three doctors attached to the office of the Chief Medical Officer and wondered as to why no exact details have been revealed.

"Three murders have taken place (in the CMO office) of Dr. Arya, Dr. B P Singh, and Dr. Sachan. Mayawatiji has removed three ministers in this matter saying they indulged in wrong activities but has not yet revealed what exactly they did wrong and why was no judicial case ordered against them. The state is neck deep in corruption," he added.

Dr. Yogender Singh Sachan was found dead in the lavatory of a prison in the state capital Lucknow on Wednesday (June 22).

The 52-year-old Deputy Chief Medical Officer (Deputy CMO) was accused of plotting the murder of his senior, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. B.P. Singh.

Sachan's involvement was also suspected in the murder of Singh's predecessor, CMO Dr Vinod Arya.

Singh demanded a CBI inquiry into cases including the attack on RTI activist Amarnath Pandey and said his party is in the forefront of exposing misdeeds under Mayawati's rule.

"We in the Congress party will expose corruption in Mayawati's government in each village, block and district and will fight it out. We demand a CBI enquiry (on attack on RTI activist Amarnath Pandey). She must take this step or else she will also fall into this trap," said Digvijay Singh.

The Mayawati-led state government in Uttar Pradesh has been in the eye of a storm with frequent incidents of rape and murder in the state. (ANI)
